Fred Dixon Haworth was born on July 19, 1888, East Mayport, FL and died February 16, 1983, Jacksonville, Duval Co., FL. His daughter, Barbara Haworth Cooper, says he owned a small store in East Mayport. He was a carpenter and fisherman. When he was 16, he was hospitalized in St. Luke’s Hospital with malaria. His grandfather, Eli Haworth, was a physician and keeper of the St. Johns River Lighthouse. Eli owned an extensive amount of the DeWeese Grant and a hotel on Burnside Beach/Seminole Beach. Fred worked at the Continental Hotel. After WWI, he became boatman, then a fisherman, and then a master carpenter. He and his wife, Hulda Huffman Haworth, were founding members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Jacksonville Beach where he built the altar. He and his wife had a son and daughter.
His younger brother Addison also served in the war.
